Oh, you can leave it open because it refreshes every 30 seconds.

LOl, ok a triple post here, but I now plan to take off the sound for the main page, or possibly have an actual sound of me saying "There are people online to race against right now!" which shall play once only.

Then there will be a link to an "IMR Notifier". It will open in a small popup window and refresh every 10 or 15 seconds. It will keep a record of how many people are in the imr in the url, say "imr.php?count=5", so theres 5 players in the room.

If a player enters, once the page refreshes and notices this, a sound will play saying "A player has entered the room", and if a player leaves, it will do the same, possibly even suggesting a game might have started if 2 players leaves.

Hopefully this will be of great help to people who idle in the IMR and miss people simply because they were looking at a different application.

If you goto http://www.hoverrace.com , the link is below the IMR display in the top right corner "IMR Notifier".

It plays sounds when...

It initiates, if there are people in the IMR.
It tells you when a player has joined OR left the room.
It also guesses that a game has started if 2 people leave the room.

Hope this tool is of use to you all.

nice work austin... That's really good... it's weitrd hearin you voice lol... Is there any way you could have voice packs from different people like on worms so you can choose who's voice does the announcement? It would be funy to hear how people speak Smile

i bet Gothreys one would sound like a real nerdy one Smile

Unfortunately its not possible Geo Cloaking.

If anyone did want the ability for their voice to be on the IMR Notifier, simply record these sounds, and send them me on msn or via email.

"There are current people in the Internet Meeting Room"
"A player has joined the IMR"
"A player has left the IMR"
"2 or more players have just left the IMR, or a game has just started"
"A game has just started"
"A game is now available to join"

(The last two might be possible soon, but its too early to say, they would just save me the hassle of asking for you to make them)

These sounds don't have to be deadly accurate as to the request, just as long as they make enough sense.

I also plan to include a "message" sound, if someone talks in the IMR, it will make a small sound to notify you, but if I can't figure out a decent way to disable it, I won't be including it.

Turns out Firefox and Opera didn't like embedded mp3's, so I put them as flash files, works now.

More progress, it plays sounds for messages now, and gives you control on the other ones.

By default, message/leaving sound is DISABLED and joining sound is ENABLED.

I've also removed the initial message of people being in the IMR, you are not blind.
