No need to lock it, personally I don't mind the change of topic. It gets back on topic when

1) The off-topicness dies and someone brings up the original intent again

2) Richard sends a letter

One of these will happen sooner or later. I'd be happy to unlock this topic but I don't know if you want me to.

Well, since BaP wanted to bring this back to topic, I've unlocked it. Sorry Austin if you didn't want it to be unlocked... but I don't know why you'd want it to be locked even if it was on topic. It wasn't a Great HoverRace Flamewar this time Smile

Iggly, have you heard anything from Richard lately?

Nope. I hope I will soon. The last e-mail I sent his way was July 1, so it's been just about a week. Usually he'll respond within a month.

You are on your way to destruction.

What you say !!

You have no chance to survive make your time.

Richard wrote:
Hi Ryan,

I have worked on the sources this weekend and I have been able to remove
all the stock I did not wanted to publish plus I added a std header with
a notice in every source of the file. The header is

// ChildFrm.cpp : implementation of the CChildFrame class
//
//
// Copyright (c) 1995-1998 - Richard Langlois and Grokksoft Inc.
//
// Licensed under GrokkSoft HoverRace SourceCode License v1.0(the
"License");
// you may not use this file except in compliance with the License.
//
// A copy of the license should have been attached to the package from
which
// you have taken this file. If you can not find the license you can not
use
// this file.
//
//
// The author makes no representations about the suitability of
// this software for any purpose. It is provided "as is" "AS IS",
// WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or
// implied.
//
// See the License for the specific language governing permissions
// and limitations under the License.

I now just need to include a license that will state that the sources
code can be use for non commercial purpose and if portion of the source
code are used, it must be specified somewhere that portion of the code
are from GrokkSoft Inc. ....

I know that you already made some research on that subject. If you could
provide me with a simple license exemple I would appreciate.

After that I'll zip the entire directory structure (about 50MB) and you
will need to have those sources compiled.

Have a good night

Richard

Take off all Zig.
For great justice.

Hey Richard,

It's great to hear that you've done this. The entire community thanks you greatly.

About the license - here's the one you said would be acceptable earlier:

the documentation and/or other materials provided with the

LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR TORT (INCLUDING
NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE) ARISING IN ANY WAY OUT OF THE USE OF THIS
SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.

----

That's the BSD license. The template can be found at:

http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.php

For that version I pasted above, I used "Grokksoft" for the Owner, "Grokksoft" for the Organization, and "1996" for the year. Other suggestions might be "Richard Langlois" for the owner, or something else. I'm not entirely sure who owns the copyright, but that license should work just fine.

Again, thanks very much for putting forth the effort to get this done - let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to do.

Thanks,

Ryan Curtin

There was a grammatical error in your license. "Neither the name of the Grokksoft..."

Talk to these guys.

http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.php

Neither the name of the <ORGANIZATION>...

I didn't realize it because I did a copy-paste job.

Usually the name of an organization has a antecedent that would permit 'the'.

For example,
'Mozilla Foundation" or whatever. Neither the name of the Microsoft Corporation... see my drift?

Microsoft = Company name
Microsoft Corporation = Organization

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bsd_license has some real-life examples.

Grammar are a pain in a ass anyways. I had made a gramatical error in my post above with saying "a antecedent" instead of "an antecedent".
